Social learning is an important option for personal development. Learners need space to ask questions, challenge ideas, and learn from peers beyond their immediate team. Access Bookboon gives those who benefit from social learning the space to, within a framework built for professional accountability.

Many organisations ask how Channels and Bookboon Live operate and what safeguards are in place. These features are engineered to facilitate structured, professional interaction while maintaining learner autonomy. Each component is designed to promote meaningful knowledge exchange within a controlled environment, ensuring users can collaborate effectively without compromising platform integrity.

⚠️ Important: In the unlikely event you encounter inappropriate behaviour within our social learning features, please contact your access representative (customer support, account manager or customer success manager).

To learn more about these features, please see the relevant section below.

Channels

Channels focus is learner led discussions. This lets learners explore articles and, if they choose to, start or join discussions about what they’re learning with other users.

The below list details how we've designed the conversations social feature to guide learners toward thoughtful, professional conversations.

  • Context matters. Learners arrive at Channels directly after engaging with content. They're already in learning mode, thinking critically about the material. This isn't a random comment section, it's a natural extension of their development opportunity.

  • Identity creates accountability. Every comment shows the learner's name or initials. There's no anonymity here, and that changes everything. When people know their contributions are tied to their professional identity, conversations stay thoughtful and constructive.

  • Personal development, not company business. Learners participate as individuals exploring their own growth, not as representatives of your organisation.

  • Monitored. We have a team dedicated to monitoring our social features to ensure conversations are a safe and constructive space for those who wish to participate.

Bookboon Live

Bookboon live helps facilitate guided, real time learning. During live sessions, learners can participate through a live chat feature if they wish. These sessions are facilitated by hosts who actively guide the session by reading, responding and encouraging participation throughout.

Knowing a host is present creates a dynamic, professional, and accountable learning environment. Learners can participate as much or little as they like, confident that the conversation remains meaningful.

Benefits of our approach

Feature

Benefits

Learner accountability through identity

Identifiable accounts naturally encourage considerate, professional engagement.

We’ve designed these features to foster responsible participation.

Active presence instead of passive monitoring

Whether it’s visible hosts in Live sessions or moderation behind the scenes in Channels, learners know these spaces are attended and guided.

Separation from your organisation

Learners engage as individuals, not company representatives.

Development conversations stay focused on learning content, not your workplace.

Learning flow

Discussions happen immediately after learners engage with content, providing context for participation. An in-the-flow approach enables learners to contribute thoughtfully on the key points they’ve just read.

What this means for your organisation

You get to provide a powerful professional development tool for your employees without the burden of moderating every interaction.

The below list outlines our built-in structures.

  • Optional participation for those who prefer independence or privacy.

  • Accountable participation through identifiable accounts.

  • Professional oversight where needed.

  • A community focused on learning, not controversy.

📌 Note: Organisations’ common concerns have not materialised because the features are designed to prevent issues before they start.
